CATEGORIES

  • Support teachers to develop their subject knowledge in the teaching of phonics in KS1;
  • Provide planning, text recommendations and practical approaches to support the use and application of phonics, whichever validated scheme your school has decided to use;
  • Provide an overview of the core features of an effective systematic phonics programme and the associated subject knowledge, terminology and practice that runs across all validated schemes;
  • Explore how to support children’s use and application of phonics in reading and writing to support enhanced progress in comprehension and composition, as well as decoding and transcription.

This online phonics training for teachers is designed to support you to develop subject knowledge in the teaching, use and application of phonics, whichever validated scheme your school has decided to use.  This will include an overview of the core features of an effective systematic phonics programme and the associated subject knowledge, terminology and practice that runs across all validated schemes.

This session will build on the knowledge and practice from the EYFS session and explores how to revisit and revise the basic code in Year 1, and extend children’s skills of listening to, discriminating and vocalising phonemes, blending and segmenting by looking at consonant clusters at the beginnings and ends of words.

We will also explore ways in which to support children to use and apply these skills in the context of quality texts and rich and purposeful writing opportunities across the provision.

All elements of the training are in line with the requirements of the Reading Framework and the National Curriculum.

What will participants gain?

  • An understanding of how phonic knowledge develops from Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1
  • Exploring the key terminology, skills and strategies which should be developed in KS1
  • How to choose and use quality children’s literature to support the use and application of phonics in KS1

This webinar is part of a three session package of webinars which provide participants with an introduction to the CLPE approach to phonics across EYFS and KS1 and into KS2 for those children needing further support. Schools can either book leaders on to all three sessions for a complete overview, or book individual teachers on to the sessions that applies to the phases they teach.

This webinar is delivered via Zoom. Once a place has been secured, the participant will receive a pre-registration email three days before the training date with details on how to join the session. Please ensure that you register in advance of the event start time. If you have any issues, please email webinar@clpe.org.uk.

Webinar price is per person.

The presenters were engaging and responsive. The session was well-paced and clear.
