Enhance knowledge and understanding in how to support children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) throughout their Primary School experience.

This two day course is designed by experts, providing subject knowledge and understanding to teachers and leaders in the stages of language acquisition and how to teach children at varying stages of language development. It draws upon proven best practice, giving participants the confidence and skills to support children in the classroom through a rich literacy curriculum.

What you will learn:

Day 1:

  • Consider the needs of newly arrived children in the early stages of acquiring English as an Additional Language (EAL) and how best to meet these;
  • Strategies and approaches that ensure the unique identity of each EAL learner is valued, recognised nd celebratedi;
  • Understand the stages of language acquisition and the implications for teaching and learning within each stage.
  • The ideas, strategies and approaches for supporting children with English as an Additional Language within a rich literacy curriculum.

Day 2:

  • Opportunity for self-evaluation following a review of school and classroom provision.
  • Consider the needs of children as they move through the different stages of language acquisition and how best to meet these through a rich literacy curriculum.


What participants will receive?

As well as two full days training, all participants will receive an extensive resource pack to support implementation of ideas from the course in the classroom.
