Reflecting Realities: British Values in Children’s Literature Conference
British Values in Children’s Literature 1 March 2017. This conference is now past.
This timely and important conference will consider the role that children’s literature has to play in helping us make sense of the world around us and our place within it. Delegates will explore why we need to ensure that children from all backgrounds and experiences are represented in the books they encounter. They will investigate how high quality children's literature can be used to raise self-esteem, encourage empathy and develop social cohesion; creating a foundation upon which our pupils can grow to be resilient, articulate, confident and literate individuals.
Speakers
Delegates will hear from legends in the field of children’s literature sharing the wealth of their experience and how this has informed and continues to shape the landscape.

Writers Workshops
The workshops will focus on how renowned authors in the field develop their work, where they find inspiration as well as insights into their process and how we can draw on this to inform how we support children in finding their own authorial voice.

Conference details
The conference will feature a pop up bookshop from Letterbox Library who will be selling a selection of high quality, relevant texts on the day. Delegates will have the opportunity to get their books signed by the authors. They will each receive a delegate bag with associated teaching resources. Photography takes place at some of our events.
