The Importance of Early Reading Conference

Our first conference was designed to help all teachers to support children at the beginning of their reading journey and show how schools can build an effective and ambitious reading curriculum that meets the needs of all learners.
Hear from a range of literacy experts and take part in practical workshops covering phonics, reading fluency and the development of reading comprehension. Understand how to teach the skills and knowledge needed to support early readers to become confident and competent readers as well as how to plan a rich reading curriculum that meets the needs of all learners.
We are delighted to have a range of keynote speakers including:
Gill Jones - Ofsted's Deputy Director of Early Education and one of Her Majesty's Inspectors
Gill will outline key messages from the Ofsted Curriculum Review on the link between quality texts and language development.
Michael Rosen - Award-winning poet and author, and Professor of Children's Literature at Goldsmiths University
Michael will share his experience in writing for and in engaging Early Readers.
David Reedy - Trustee and past President of the United Kingdom Literacy Association and Fellow of The Chartered College of Teaching.
David will discuss the components of an effective reading curriculum based on recent and relevant research.
Anjali will discuss how CLPE's research into early reading and our text-based approaches help teachers deliver quality classroom practice to meet the needs of readers at different stages in their reading journey.
The conference will also feature a series of phase-specific workshops geared to the specific learning needs and requirements for each year group. These will be led by our teaching team: Anjali Patel, Darren Matthews, Katie Myles and Jonathan Rodgers.
Joining us throughout the day will be Newham Bookshop, selling a range of quality children's books including works by Michael Rosen.
