Too old for scraped knees and playgrounds

and running after ice-cream trucks.

 

But still young enough to sit on the docks,

feet just touching the ice-cold water,

 

strawberries, ice lollies and sticky fingers.

This is a litany of crushes and hopeful probabilities,

 

welcome to almost womanhood

and a summer of possibilities.
